Partner David L. Applegate is past president of Literacy Chicago and its predecessor, Literacy Volunteers of Chicago. In 1992, he helped oversee the merger of Literacy Volunteers of Chicago and its Laubach Literacy counterpart, the Literacy Council of Chicago, to form Literacy Chicago, which provides basic adult literacy, family literacy and English as a second language services to Chicago’s immigrant and under-educated communities.
