Mary J. Bortscheller - Associate
Biography
Mary J. Bortscheller is an associate at Williams Montgomery & John Ltd. and a member of the firm's class action, commercial litigation and product liability practice groups. She focuses her practice on complex litigation matters involving business disputes, product liability and class action defense.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Bortscheller worked as a research assistant on the defense team for the U.S. v. Rod Blagojevich criminal re-trial. She served for two years in the U.S. Peace Corps as a volunteer English teacher in Sichuan Province, China, before going to law school.
Education/Bar Admissions
Ms. Bortscheller received a B.A. in political science, cum laude, in 2004 from Gustavus Adolphus College, where she was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha. She received her J.D., cum laude, in 2010 from American University, Washington College of Law, where she was a member of the International Law Review and served as a teaching assistant in the Legal Rhetoric Program. In 2008, she worked as a judicial intern for the Honorable Arthur J. Boylan, Magistrate Judge, District of Minnesota.
Ms. Bortscheller was admitted to the Illinois bar in 2010 and was also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Her volunteer activities include working on the Chicago Legal Clinic, Inc. Foreclosure Defense Project, where she helped pro se litigants understand the legal process before Chancery Division courts and assisted them with the preparation of motions, responses and other legal documents.
