October 26, 2011

C. Barry Montgomery and Edward R. Moor received Trial Lawyer Excellence Awards at the annual Jury Verdict Reporter Awards Ceremony & Reception on October 26.  Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Moor received Trial Excellence Awards for their roles in Sean Mason v. Medline Industries Inc., et al., in which they secured an $85 million settlement, the largest Cook County settlement of the past year, and one of the largest settlements in history secured on behalf of the U.S. in a False Claims Act case where the U.S. declined to intervene in the case.  The client was awarded 27.5 percent of the settlement, more than $23 million, for his whistleblower role in the case.

The invitation-only awards ceremony and reception was held at the University Club of Chicago by the Jury Verdict Reporter, a division of Law Bulletin Publishing Co., in recognition of successful representation of clients.  Over 200 trial attorneys and judges were in attendance.  This year 14 awards were given recognizing 34 trial attorneys.  This was the second consecutive year Mr. Montgomery received a Trial Excellence Award from the Jury Verdict Reporter.
